Power user / ML engineer

I write about ML, open source, the web, and occasionally using too much compute to investigate my own problems.

About Me

I like to describe myself as a power user turned ML engineer.

Throughout my career, I've been drawn to technologies and communities I care about. I've often found that being a genuine user of a product helps me develop stronger intuition for the problems I'm solving.

  • I was a Tumblr DAU long before I joined the company, where I spent nearly four years working on recommendations, ranking, content understanding, search, and growth.
  • As a kid, I’d spend countless hours going down Wikipedia rabbit holes and eventually found myself working as a Research Engineer at the Wikimedia Foundation on content reliability.
  • I collaborated with the Tor Project on research into internet censorship across Southeast Asia. [1, 2, 3]
  • I’ve been a Redditor since my teens; now I work at Reddit.

Apparently my career strategy is just to get hired by websites I spend too much time on.
